ERIN LEWIS-FITZGERALD

Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald is Australia’s leading clothes-mending practitioner. Her book Modern Mending was first published in 2020 and is now in its third printing.

Originally from Central California, Erin has lived in Melbourne, Australia, for over 20 years. She began her career in journalism at 15 and worked as an editor, writer, and photographer. After leaving journalism she founded Bright Sparks, a social enterprise that repaired and reused electrical appliances to keep them out of the landfill.

A sewist and mender since the 1980s, she began running community mending events in 2009 and teaching clothes-mending workshops in 2013.

Since becoming a mom/mum in 2021, she has been focussing her kid-free time on running her online shop, modernmending.com, and battling the constant clothing holes and stains that small people create. After a maternity break, she's excited to be teaching again to menders around the world.
